The right size of a pendant lamp for the dining table

The diameter of the pendant light should be about 1/2 to 2/3 of the width of the dining table.

Also consider the size of the room the dining table is located in. A light fixture that's too large can be overwhelming in a small room, while one that's too small can be overshadowed in a large room.
